Behind the Scenes of a Custom Notebook
Ever wondered how a custom notebook is made? It's a blend of automated precision and skilled craftsmanship. Here is the journey of a StationeryWorks notebook.
Step 1: Material Selection
It starts with the cover. We source high-grade PU (Polyurethane) leather that mimics the texture of real leather but offers better color consistency and durability. We inspect the rolls for any blemishes or uneven grain.
Step 2: Cutting and Logo Application
The PU leather is cut to size. Before assembly, we apply your logo. Whether it's debossing (stamping the logo into the material) or hot foil stamping (adding gold/silver foil), this happens while the cover is flat for maximum precision.
Step 3: The Book Block
Meanwhile, the inner pages (remember, usually 100gsm!) are printed, cut, and bound together. We use thread-sewn binding rather than just glue. This ensures the notebook lays flat when opened—a crucial feature for user comfort.
Step 4: Assembly and Casing In
The cover is wrapped around rigid greyboard and glued. Then, the "book block" is glued into the cover, a process called "casing in." The endpapers (the sheets gluing the block to the cover) are smoothed down to prevent bubbles.
Step 5: Accessories
Finally, we add the elastic closure band, the ribbon marker, and the back pocket. Each element is color-matched to your specifications.
Step 6: Final QC
Every notebook is inspected. We check for glue residue, corner alignment, and logo clarity. Only then are they packed for delivery.
